Tennessee Hit & Run Driver Leaves Motorcyclist On The Road To Die

A 21-year-old man is paralyzed from the waist down and struggles to recover at the Vanderbilt Rehab Center after being struck by a Hit & Run driver in Clarksville Tennessee the other night. The low-down dog who hit him and left the scene has been arrested and charged. His blood/alcohol reading was 0.14, almost two times the legal limit. My prayers go out to this young man for a speedy and complete recovery.

Hit & Run drivers are, in my consideration, the worst kind of human being. Most H&R drivers are under the influence of alcohol, others have already run afoul of the law and have lost their driving privileges, yet they continue to get behind the wheel and ignore the rules.

Many H&R drivers are trying to avoid detection because they don’t have insurance and they don’t want to face the responsibility for their actions. No matter which category they fall into they are the very worst type of person, someone who will leave an injured or dying pedestrian lying in the street.

Chattanooga Police Looking For Hit & Run Driver

Right this very minute there are two lowlifes somewhere in Hamilton County who need to be found and who need to have the heavy hammer of the law come down on them with righteous fury. If I sound angry, then you have a good read on me.

These lowlifes were driving along and for some unknown reason struck a 58-year-old pedestrian, got out of their car and checked on the man and got back in there car and drove away. They did not call emergency responders to alert them to the man lying in the street. At the time of the local media report there was no information about the man’s condition.

Get Ready Memphis-Run A Red Light And Pay The Fine

Cameras Reduce Intersection Deaths and Injuries

Cameras Reduce Intersection Deaths and Injuries

Starting tomorrow Memphis is joining the 21st Century when it comes to reducing intersection deaths and injuries and the citizens are going to be howling mad. Memphis, like many cities around the country has decided to experiment with digital camera systems that are intended to identify drivers who run red lights and speed through intersections. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that in 2005 alone, nearly 9,200 people died and approximately one million people were injured in intersection-related crashes-approximately 40-45 percent of all crashes. The two main factors of these accidents are those who speed through intersections and those who run red lights. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association red light running crashes are responsible for approximately 260,000 injuries and 750 fatalities annually.

According to an article in the Memphis Commercial-Appeal reports that at one intersection in Memphis there were 386 intersection collisions during a three-year period. The article goes on to estimate that the cameras will generate 240,000 tickets amounting to $9.7 million in revenue with approximately $3.1 million going to the city. My blogs have been following the installation of these devices in Oak Ridge Tennessee and it appears that the majority of complaints are from people who don’t like to get tickets when they run red lights or speed through intersections.

An article on the WHBQ TV website quotes Germantown City Administrator Patrick Lawton as reporting that after having the cameras for over ten years, “What we’ve seen is a reduction of the head-on collisions, and the T-bone type collisions and those are more of the serious accidents in nature.” Research from around the world matches the Germantown results. Lives are saved and millions of dollars in property damages are prevented.

Intersection Crashes Make Up Half Of Motor Vehicle Collisions

Intersections Are Dangerous

Intersections Are Dangerous

As an experienced Tennessee automobile accident attorney I have learned that although intersections constitute a very small part of the highway and street network, still nearly half of the motor vehicle crashes occur there. Driving near and through intersections is one of the most complex conditions that drivers will encounter. Previous studies have indicated that a significant percentage of crashes involving elderly drivers seem to occur at intersections.

A recent article in the Daily Post-Athenian reported a two-vehicle accident that sent three people to the hospital. The collision occurred at an intersection just outside the Athens, Tennessee city limits. According to police a car with two occupants was struck by a tractor-trailer in the signaled intersection. My first thought is that one of the drivers had run a red light leading to the collision.

One of the primary causes of crashes at signalized intersections involves a vehicle entering an intersection when the red light signal is displayed. This type of collision occurs frequently. Clearly, red-light running, which is reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to be on the rise as with other aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, tailgating and not stopping or even slowing at stop-controlled intersections, has become a national safety problem.

Red-light running is also a complex problem. There is no simple or single reason to explain why drivers run red lights. My experience here in Nashville is that red light runners are more likely to be younger than 30-years old, have a record of moving violations, are driving without a valid license and/or have consumed alcohol.

Two Tennessee Tractor-Trailer Accidents Block I-40

One Truck Driver Dies

One Truck Driver Dies

Tennessee media sources reported two Tractor-trailer crashes on I-40 yesterday leaving one trucker dead and several others seriously injured. WKRN Channel 2 in Nashville reported that in a Nashville tractor-trailer accident a rig hauling steel veered off of East bound Interstate 40 just before white Bridge Rd. Police believe that the 42 year-old driver suffered some type of medical emergency which caused the accident. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt. Had he veered seconds later and not hit the barrier he would have driven headlong into an active construction zone.

Two hundred miles to the West, just outside of Memphis Tennessee, the Commercial Appeal reports on another Tennessee tractor-trailer accident. From the report it appears that a North Carolina driver pulled his three-trailer rig onto the shoulder and went off into the grass causing his tractor-trailer to veer back into traffic where he clipped a Saturn and ended up on his side blocking the East bound lane for several hours. The tractor-trailer driver was taken to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis in non-critical condition while the condition of the car driver and passengers is unknown at the present time.
