Basketball Player Killed in Single Car Crash
The Johnson City Press reports that a promising young sophomore basketball player at East Tennessee State University was killed in a single car accident on I-64 in Shelby County thirty-five miles East of Louisville when his car hydroplaned and skidded off the roadway. The Press reported that Shelby County authorities noted that a storm had just ended and the victim was speeding when he hit pooled water and lost control. His car veered into a banked median and flipped twice. The young man was not wearing a seat belt and he was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s sad to say, but as an experienced Tennessee car accident lawyer I see this kind of situation everyday. Teen drivers are especially at risk for making errors in judgment when driving. Weather conditions play a major role in highway safety and a thoughtful driver should take them into consideration when traveling on the highway. Couple wet roads with worn tires and excessive speed and you have a recipe for disaster. In this case the death of a young man in the prime of his life.
