Drunken Lawnmower Driver

An Expensive Lawnmower Ride

An Expensive Lawnmower Ride

In the history of country music there are many tall tales floating around about the drunken exploits of the biggest stars. A well-known sauce-head super star had plenty of run-ins with the Nashville police and on one occasion he was arrested for driving his riding lawn-mower drunkenly down the road on his way to the local liquor store. It seems his super star wife had taken to hiding the keys to the family cars but overlooked the family lawnmower. That foolish incident made a lot of people laugh but many others understood the deadly serious nature of his actions and the sad reality of his addiction to alcohol.

Life has a way of imitating art and just last week a number of Illinois news outlets reported the story of a Belleville man whose license to operate a motor vehicle had been revoked because of prior DUI offenses. The Sheriff’s Department started receiving calls from motorist warning them that a drunken man driving a yellow riding mower and weaving all over the road. When Deputies arrived on the scene it appears that this guy had purchased a 12-pack of Old Milwaukee at a nearby convenience store and tried to evade the deputies by driving the mower through his neighbors backyard. The jig was up when his 12-pack fell apart and he stopped to pick them up. He was taken to jail and later freed under a ten thousand dollar bond. A week later he was charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence. He faces up to three years in prison.
